About

Thank you for visiting my webpage! I am Alyssa Thomas, a PhD student at Te Herenga Waka/Victoria University of Wellington in Aotearoa New Zealand. My research seeks to explore Māori methodologies of tohu (environmental indicators) and maramataka (Māori lunisolar calendar system) to understand climate change vulnerabilities in Antarctica and Aotearoa.

I am conducting field research at Scott Base, Antarctica between October and November 2025, and I’ll be documenting my experiences here.

I acknowledge the many tohunga (experts) that I have learned from and many of the stories I share here are not to my sole credit.

Feel free to contact me at alyssagthomas@gmail.com
